Job purpose:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) develops a vision for the Corporation as it builds a power plant, manages its operations, and implements energy business development plans.

Main duties

  • Leads the discussion and negotiation of major agreements including Power Purchase Agreement, Grid Connection, feasibility study, Government Guarantee Undertakings
  • Participates in and supports the negotiation of LNG supply contracts
  • Participates in and supports the project’s financing arrangements
  • Develops short- and long-term business plans for the power plant and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors, and secures the resources necessary to implement business plans
  • Implements approved infrastructure and business plans, using project management methods, sound financial management, and develops metrics that detail the success of operations
  • Develops and maintains relationships with and leads communications with varied partners, including the Board, government bodies and officials, the local business community, and domestic and international clients
  • Keeps the Board fully informed of the results of the operations and carries out approved policies, plans, and programs
  • Leads the development and implementation of the overall company’s strategy
  • Solicits advice and guidance, when appropriate, from the Board of Directors
  • Formulates and implements the strategic plan that guides the direction of the business
  • Oversees daily operations to ensure the highest possible efficiency, quality, and cost-effective management of resources, including the development and implementation of internal controls, processes, and standards for operations
  • Participates in industry-related events and/or associations that enhance the CEO’s leadership skills and profile, the company’s reputation, and the company’s potential for success
  • Recruits, supervises, and trains senior staff to establish strong management at the company
  • Builds the company’s reputation and brand to achieve a leading position in the Vietnam marketplace.

Requirements

  • Twenty years of experience in management in the electricity utility industry, including at least five years of senior management experience, is preferred. The CEO should understand the whole process of the power plant, generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power and have a proven record of career success including the planning development, and implementation of business plans
  • BA/BS degree required: engineering, finance, accounting, statistics, economics, or other fields of study appropriate to the electrical utility industry
  • Strong skills in the areas of project management, written and oral communications, government relations, financial analysis, business law, and strategic planning. The CEO should also be a good public speaker
  • Strong people management skills. Able to recruit, lead and manage the performance of a large team
  • Proven experience managing a budget for a division and/or organization
  • Strong understanding of the Vietnamese business environment, and existing networks within the electrical utility industry in Vietnam
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong presentation skills
  • English language skills (speaking, reading, writing) required
  • Excellent organizational development, people management and operational skills
  • Ability to foster a healthy organizational culture, to encourage teamwork and collaboration; strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to inspire and motivate; effective at conflict management
  • Strong preference for Vietnamese candidates with an international education and/or experience.
