Position Overview

The Industrial Textile Construction Designer plays a central role in developing the material and aesthetic vision for our home décor, furniture, outdoors, and pool living product lines. This role blends creativity, technical expertise, and consumer insight to design textile products that enhance comfort, durability, and style. The designer will balance conceptual innovation with commercial feasibility, ensuring each product aligns with the brand’s design language and market direction.

This position requires strong collaboration across Asia Sourcing, and US PD teams, as well as independent exploration and trend-driven research. The designer must be comfortable working cross-functionally with global partners and suppliers and is expected to travel frequently (approximately 25-50% of the time) for supplier visits, trade shows, and market research.

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Brief & Design Execution

  • Translate product briefs into fabric and material concepts aligned with seasonal strategies and product categories.
  • Develop detailed design proposals including fabric construction, texture, pattern, and color application.
  • Ensure all materials meet quality, performance, and sustainability standards suitable for indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Collaborate closely with PD, sourcing, and engineering teams to ensure design feasibility, cost efficiency, and production scalability.

2. Design Language & Concept Development

  • Establish and evolve a cohesive design language across all home and outdoor textile categories.
  • Drive consistency in aesthetic direction while allowing room for innovation and differentiation by category or region.

3. Consumer & Market Research

  • Conduct research on consumer preferences, lifestyle patterns, and emerging behaviors in the home and outdoor living space.
  • Gather insights from key markets to guide product relevance and regional adaptation.
  • Track competitor products, materials, and innovations to identify white space opportunities.

4. Trend & Material Exploration

  • Research and identify on-trend colors, fabrics, silhouettes, and finishes relevant to home décor and furniture applications.
  • Engage directly with mills, vendors, and material specialists to source and develop new constructions and surface treatments.
  • Maintain expertise in outdoor performance fabrics, sustainable materials, and evolving textile technologies.

5. Independent Creative Exploration (40%)

  • Dedicate a portion of work time to self-driven exploration—experimenting with textures, weaves, coatings, and print techniques.
  • Develop forward-thinking renderings that inspire future product concepts.

6. Visualization & Communication

  • Produce high-quality digital renderings and visual mockups that capture the tactile qualities of fabrics and finishes.
  • Present design concepts effectively to sourcing, PD, and leadership teams, articulating both creative and technical considerations.
  • Partner with marketing and merchandising to ensure visual and narrative consistency from concept to product launch.

7. Collaboration & Travel

  • Work cross-functionally with Asia Sourcing and US PD teams to align creative direction with material availability, supplier capabilities, and cost targets.
  • Travel frequently (approximately 25-50%) for material sourcing, vendor development, trade fairs, and market research.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5-10 years of experience in fabric or material design within home décor, furniture, or outdoor living categories.
  • Strong understanding of woven, knit, and performance fabric construction, printing, and finishing techniques.
  • Proven ability to translate consumer insights and market trends into commercially viable textile designs.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, CLO 3D, or other rendering and visualization tools.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with fluency in English.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for material innovation, sustainability, and craftsmanship.
  • Furniture & fabric expertise with the ability to design products, translate into material specs, and work with vendors on-site to develop rapid prototypes.  Speed to market is key.

Expectations

  • Working Time: Monday to Friday
  • Desired Working Location: Viet Nam, preferably near Ho Chi Minh, Binh Duong.
  • Extensive travel to vendors, fabric mills, and to fabric/furniture expos across Viet Nam.
  • Must be available for weekly Teams calls with the US team either early morning or late evening.
