Job Description:

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Task Management:

  • Ensure OHS&E policies & guidelines are carried out
  • Follow approved company processes as defined in Strategic Marine’s Business Management System
  • Continually seek to identify & minimize areas of risk and/or waste
  • Manage the output of the Aluminum Fabrication Department. Responsible for on time, on budget, delivery of Aluminum Fabrication work
  • Contribute to vessels and other specified products and services being produced and delivered inaccordance with contractual requirements and specifications
  • Ensure OHS&E guidelines and policies are carried out
  • Implement the Aluminum Fabrications aspects of lean manufacturing and modular manufacturing
  • Ensure Aluminum Fabrication Department meets and maintains ISO standards
  • Develop and maintain work breakdown schedules
  • Accountable for QA/QC of all Aluminum Fabrication work. Maintain production and quality
  • Provide high level of leadership in the resolution of design and construction issues as and when they may arise on a project
  • Continually seek to identify and minimise areas of risk
  • Deliver regular communications & progress reports to the Operations Manager
  • Budget reporting and management
  • Identify and reduce waste where possible

People Management

  • Provide leadership to all employees and subcontractors in the Engineering teams. Coach, develop & mentor key staff.
  • Develop and maintain a positive team environment.
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams
  • Conduct regular & timely Performance Review for all direct reports
  • Give both positive and negative feedback to employees about their performance in a timely and constructive manner
  • Encourage cooperation across all teams in Department

Interpersonal Management

  • Client Liaison including cooperation with client representatives on site
  • Ensure excellent communications with all levels of staff
  • Ensure liaison with shipyard management to ensure performance is consistent with the SM (V) aims and priorities
  • Develop and maintain key internal relationship with project managers, line manager
  • Internal and external negotiation, be able to accept realistic compromises when necessary
  • Develop a strong network of industry suppliers, subcontractors and contracts
  • Support the restructuring of the yard to improve material and production flaws

Information Management

  • Regular reporting (both verbal & written) to Senior Management and where necessary deliver project presentations to client
  • Understand contractual & technical requirements of project
  • Manage and sign off on Department Documentation
  • Cross-functional thinking, generate workable solutions

  • Look for opportunities to increase skills/experience in Leadership & Department Management

Performance Standards:

  • The achievement against the agreed goals/ targets.
  • The quality of works & the completion of work plan against the committed deadline.

  • Accuracy & timing of report.
  • The employee satisfaction with training level under the allocated responsibilities.
  • The violation against the company roll & regulations of allocated section/department.
  • Other significant contribution toward the department targets & company goals.

Job Specification:

Knowledge

  • Fabrication management or engineering qualifications highly desirable

Qualification

  • University or Master of Engineering in Marine Technology

  • At least 5 years experience in relevant position
  • Experience in design across a range of vessel types ( Aluminum vessel)
  • Commercial experience
  • Experience in managing teams across multiple projects and in different locations
