Job Description:

I. Job Summary

The position works with operations, engineering, & product line management to support manufacturing and R&D procurement initiatives including especially the timely and effective introduction of new products and achieving ongoing cost reduction objectives. Will negotiate with suppliers, secure competitive terms on supply agreements, identifies supply chain risks and work with suppliers and internal teams to mitigate those risks, and implements & manages product cost reduction programs to ensure that cost objectives are met. Participates in sourcing new components, negotiating supply agreements and periodic pricing updates, benchmarking industry costs and managing critical supplier delivery issues and other initiatives. This includes developing collaborative relationships with critical suppliers, supporting corporate SCM development programs and monitoring supply chain performance.

This role will be particularly focused on securing competitive costs and supply chain and will also support other commodities and geographies as needed.

II. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

1) Pricing and Contract Negotiations (25%)

  • Lead pricing and contract negotiation with key suppliers oninitial selection and periodic pricing updates.
  • Meet or exceed cost reduction objectives.
  • Coordinate with Legal on contract language; brief executivesas needed on status and obtain appropriate internalapprovals.
  • Negotiates reduction or elimination of setup charges, nonrecurring engineering charges, tooling charges, and fixturecosts.
  • Negotiates to reduce/eliminate inventory carrying cost andexcess and obsolete inventory exposure.
  • Develop and implement related agreements such as VendorManaged Inventory agreements.

2) Supplier Management (25%)

  • Communicate SCM plans to critical suppliers; coordinatesupplier quarterly reviews, supplier quality metrics, andfollow-up on issues regarding component quality, cost andavailability.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with suppliers proactivelyidentifying supply risks.
  • Manage supplier as well as internal plans to mitigate such risks.
  • Support and participate in periodic supplier audits asneeded, in conjunction with Quality department.
  • Identify/manage potential EOL issues that could interruptproduction and delivery schedules.
  • Develop, implement and coordinate activities to resolvetechnical, quality and delivery issues in the supply chain.

3) New Product Introduction (15%)

  • Early involvement in NPI recommending candidate suppliersto Engineering based on technical capabilities, cost, quality,and long term supply chain strategy.
  • Develop Supply Agreements with key suppliers as early aspossible in design/selection process.
  • Works with NPI suppliers to improve cost and reduce leadtimes in prototype and early production.
  • Coordinate and participate in initial supplier audits asneeded, in conjunction with Quality department.
  • Implement cost savings programs, monitor critical supplierprocesses and maintain the scalability and long term viabilityof the supply chain.
  • Meet cost targets and work with engineering to understanddelivery schedules and initial production objectives.
  • Track critical SCM milestones to meet project management expectations.
  • Work with R&D team to effectively manage product changesduring model and initial production to avoid stranded inventories and delivery schedule delays.

4) Supply Chain Strategy Implementation (25%)

  • Co-develop and implement supply chain strategy, identifyingoptimal solution for each component/commodity/vendorbased on competitive situation and internal targets &constraints.
  • Identifies major cost contributors and work with suppliers andinternal resources to reduce costs, optimize inventory levelsand reduce lead times.
  • Investigate alternate sources of supply and lead efforts andcommunications with R&D, Engineering, Quality, and PLM toqualify and introduce alternate components/vendors forsupply risk mitigation and cost reduction.
  • Benchmarks industry costs and pricing trends; steers productdevelopment toward lower cost solutions.
  • Reduce the product introduction cycle via ensuring deliveryof high quality parts with the shortest cycle times.
  • Drive the use off the existing/standard parts versusnew/custom parts, to reduce NPI timelines and mitigatefuture excess and obsolete inventory risk.
  • Participates in development gate review process, helping toensure designs are optimized to support mass productionwith minimal supply chain risk.
  • Track and communicate industry trends, competitiveupdates, commodity price trends, and supply/demandconcerns to appropriate personnel within AMD.

5) Administrative (10%)

  • Ensure all activities comply with code of conductand the highest ethical standards.
  • General administrative responsibilities and other tasks asassigned.
  • Enter PR’s into the systems.
  • Support corporate procurement programs in the areas ofcomponent sourcing and benchmarking and tracking industrypricing.
  • Role model for quality, customer satisfaction, employeesatisfaction and business results.

III. Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science or Arts, especially in Supply Chain Management is strongly preferred; MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant working experience in Procurement and SP Management with intensive experience with Direct Materials Sourcing.
  • Experience in using ERP in Procurement is a plus.
  • Formal training and certification in Supply Chain Management or Program Management preferred (CSCP, CPIM, or CPM).

IV. Skills & Other Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results independently or working with others.

  • Knowledgeable on manufacturing operations and the impact of various supply chain issues.
  • Serve as an expert to lead value engineering assessments and long term improvement projects, to achieve significant productivity gains and reduction in total cost of ownership.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO quality management systems and continuous improvement philosophy, quality standards, project management, statistical methods, and problem solving methodologies.
  • Ability to work under pressure and time constraints to meet targets.
  • ERP system knowledge; SAP experience preferred.
  • Willing to work evening hours as needed, e.g for international teleconferences.
